At Atlanta Kids OT, we help children of all abilities learn and grow through play and academic based activities. We believe it is essential to make therapy sessions tailored to each child’s interest and needs in order to make therapy a fun and rewarding experience.
Occupations are life activities in which individuals engage in daily tasks such as eating, dressing, sleep, social participation, work, play, lesiure and more. Pediatric occupational therapists are practitioners who specialize in helping children with physical and cognitive development. They use their skill set to help each child become as independent as possible in their day to day activities. We combine many clinical approaches to come up with a plan that is meaningful and impactful for your child. Some of the areas we work on include:
- Pencil Grasp
- Handwriting
- Cutting
- Hand grasp development
- Responding appropriately to sensations such as touch, sight, sounds, movement, etc in the environment
- Picky eating habits due to aversion to different textures, colors, etc.
- Self regulating emotions in order to reduce frustrations or meltdowns
- Dressing
- Grooming (brushing teeth, washing hands)
- Feeding using utensils
- Buttoning & zipping
- Attention during academic tasks
- Responding appropriately to peers
- Responding appropriately to changes in schedule
- Upper body strength skills
- Bilateral coordination
- Sequencing through coordination tasks
Schedule a free 15-minute phone screening with one of our expert clinicians to discuss your areas of concern. Our goal for the screening is to determine if an assessment is appropriate, ensure that we are the best fit to meet your child’s needs, and answer your questions about our process. We recognize how overwhelming it can feel to figure out how to begin the process of getting your child the services they need. We are here to help!
We will perform standardized testing and skilled observation pertaining to the child’s self care, gross and fine motor, visual motor, and sensory processing skills. Also during the evaluation we will answer any questions and concerns parents/caregivers have.
We do not believe in a one size fits all approach. We take many factors into account when determining how to support and serve your child. We work with you to come up with a plan that fits your priorities. Our OT sessions focus on helping children develop skills & adapt to their environment in order to become independent adults through academic and play based interventions. At Atlanta Kids OT, we also offer telehealth as a safe and secure alternative to better serve those who are unable to attend services in the clinic
